I believe that every child has the capacity for greatness and that this greatness should not be limited by circumstance. I work directly with children and young adults, empowering them with core skills, elements and practices to overcome situations and circumstances so that they may do their best each and every day. My work has roots in the Yoga- using breathing exercises, movement, relaxation and visualization- as well as Integrative Nutrition and Jack Canfield's Success Principles. I work directly with students, grades k-12, training them in Mindfulness Practices so that they may in turn lead themselves and their peers as the need arises. These routines support students to...
Focus and get ready to learn
Raise personal awareness
Feel a deeper sense of calm
Cope with stress
Address anger, sadness and other adverse emotions
Feel self love
Release excessive energy
Manage highly negative situations and environments
Have greater self control over their actions and reactions
By working directly with the students I am empowering them to be leaders. As students step up to their leadership role they become more positive and proactive influences in the classroom, at home and in the greater community. My programs build within students the ability to navigate highly negative situations, thoughts and emotions that get in the way of their ability to learn, be happy, be focused and in general be the productive and passionate individuals that we wish them to be. Direct training gives students the opportunity to make the Mindful Practices their own, applying them as needed, independent of an adult's instructor. This gives teachers more freedom in the classroom and the students more opportunity to feel power within their own lives. When most of the students receive their own direct training it takes the benefits of the in-class group programs to a new level.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is more than just tools and activities, it is a path of slowing down, tuning in and observing. Mindfulness is slow, simple and consistent- it is the simplicity that quiets and focuses the mind. Mindfulness is not in the perfection and attainment, rather in the consistent practice. Mindfulness is not discipline, rather it fosters a connection with self that builds self love and respect, ultimately creating a lifestyle that has a greater degree of self awareness, regulation and control. It is the learning of certain Mindfulness practices that enables us to build our toolbox and pursuit the path of Mindfulness.
To teach children and young adults the skills, principles and techniques needed to build awareness of and control over the functions of the mind in an effort to promote individual mental, emotional and physical environments that are oriented towards positive health, perseverance and success, ultimately creating a classroom, school and community culture that is growth-oriented.

Teach The Mindful Practice, the steps to successfully implement any of the core skills to best serve the individual at that specific moment
Teach students to recognize the role they play in their own actions and reactions, promoting ownership of present situation, empowering them to have greater control over their future
Breath is the cornerstone of self control and mindful living by connecting the body’s actions and sensations with the mind’s reactions within this present moment. Presence is awareness of the moment. It is only in the moment of Now that we have control over our thoughts, actions, emotions and ultimately our future. Awareness is the attention to and recognition of the body and mind’s functions. When we are not simply thinking and acting, but aware of our thoughts and our actions we have much greater control over the outcomes within our lives. Ownership is the ability to not only be aware of present personal environment but also be accepting of it, this gives control to the practitioner, empowering her/him to change it. Independence is the recognition that no one is the same as we are and therefor no one can know us better than we can, nor can anyone ultimately serve us better than we can. It is our job to practice our skills regularly so that we both know how we are doing on a daily basis as well as what we can do to serve ourselves best. Self Determination is personal empowerment to recognize that it is the opportunity and responsibility of the ourselves to take control of a limiting circumstance combined with grit and the perseverance to stay committed to our higher good. Sustainability is the recognition that in order to live a healthy and successful life there is always work to be done and growth to be made. Tools and skills to help promote a growth mindset must evolve with age and circumstances, but the principles of the skills remain the same. Respect is the understanding that we all are fighting a battle that is independent to each of us while unknown in its fullest extent to others, because of this we all owe each other and ourselves respect and compassion for the effort that we put in each day.
Zone Master Student Leadership ProgramTM
This is a unique program intended to use mindful tools to achieve two things:
To provide enrichment for students who are interested in further developing their personal mindfulness practice
To create leaders within the classroom who can lead classmates in mindfulness practices when there is a need
These students receive additional time and training to further develop their mindful practice skills, going deeper into the fundamentals of living a mindful life, learning additional poses, exercises and sequences and having more opportunity to practice and receive mentorship from me. The Zone Master Student Leadership Program supports the growth of Mindfulness & SEL within the school without putting excess strain on the teachers to build the curriculum. It also empowers and builds confidence within students beyond the basic mindfulness training as they step into a leadership position.
