1/10/2015 0 Comments Life Security: Knowing Who You AreIf your job changed tomorrow in a way you didn't anticipate, how would you react? So much of our lives are defined by our careers and intimate relationships that it is easy to lose track of who you are in the mix. The edges that define you become blurred into your surroundings. When this happens there is no choice but to be completely affected by the changes that your jobs and relationships bring to your life. I recently read an article in a Yoga magazine discussing what happens when a yoga instructor injures herself and cannot teach. This is a very strong reality as it is possible to break your leg or anything else in very random places. What do you do then? Who are you outside of being a yoga instructor? When circumstances like this set in there are two reactions:
You are not your job, your relationships, your current life situation. Both "current" and "situation" in that last term are defined as impermanent instances, that is to say that these things aren't necessarily meant to last forever. These relationships, jobs, etc are badges that are sewn onto yourself to define who you are, but they are not actually you. Making that distinction will protect you from situation 1 mentioned above. It's a sobering realization to learn that if you lost your job tomorrow that all would actually be well in the world, you would just have to find a new job. If though, the lines of you had blurred into the lines of your job, and you no longer knew who you were without your job, then this might be a very drawn out and painful process. It's ok to let these badges define you- especially if they align to who you are without them- but it's importantly to distinguish that they are just badges, they are not you. This theory requires you to know who you are. Knowing who you are is ultimately life security, so when life is turned upside down you can still maintain that sense of you. When the lines of you are clearly defined then you are capable of going through the different situations and maintain yourself. This helps you to encounter difficult situations or personalities while maintaining self respect and navigating them with integrity. Similarly, when the lines of you are clearly defined then if the worst happens (job loss, breakups, etc.) you are able to hone in on you within this crazy situation, nurture you, see what you need to do to turn the situation around. Ultimately, when you are aware of yourself then you step out of the role as the victim-of-your-life and step into the role as the creator-of-your-life.

1/7/2015 0 Comments Building Your Personal BrandIf you were a product, say a barbie-like doll, what would you look like? In your box you would also have all of your strengths, passions, capabilities and all that you want to learn and do more of in your life. This package would be a perfect depiction of you in your truest, most perfect state. All of those hangups: the body features you hate, your parents divorce when you were young, teenage heartbreak, fights, fears, anxieties, etc. that have come to define you wouldn't be in this package. This package also does not include career, relationships and personal health.
Why? The outcome of the experiences related to these different topics should serve to define your path in life, they themselves should not define you. When you hold onto the catalyst for defining moments in your life (i.e. the divorce, heartbreak, career, etc.) they prevent you from fully embracing your personal brand, which as previously mentioned is perfect. When you take on this junk and not just the outcome of the junk then you are no longer wholly you, you are now you + all of your past and present problems. The defining edges that make you, YOU suddenly become blurred, you become less defined. When going through life the key is to experience it, learn from it, grow and continue to move forward... not to sew badges onto your suit of all the good and bad that you've encountered. When you sew badges you are allowing yourself to be defined not only by that which is not you, but also defined by the past. This key point requires healthy disconnect. There are three ways you can experiences a situation:
This brings my to the second point, health disconnect which is when you are moving through life engaging fully with all around you, embracing life to the fullest. There is a lack of fear of opportunity, conflict or change because there is trust that every conflict creates growth. Similarly, you find yourself able to let go of the catalyst of each problem, focusing on the positive lesson learned that has created a more empowered present moment. When you work on building this model into your life you can experience life with all the awesome successes of learning and evolving, without the badges and hangups that limit you over time. This means that you can have a bad day at work that doesn't follow you home, or an argument that doesn't ruin your day. You begin to experience life from the drivers seat, with full control over where you are going. You are a perfect package, with so many beautiful and powerful defining qualities. Focus on them! Slowly peal off all of those badges and liberate yourself from all of the things that you believe you should be. You can experience less than stellar jobs, relationships, situations because let's be honest, that is reality, you you don't allow yourself to be affected by them. You wake up each day and live your life with a focus on the good, doing your job as a human, moving through the junk that defines life and appreciating it as much as you appreciate all of those wonderful moments because they both bring you further on your path to make you more powerful, successful and awesome. 1/4/2015 0 Comments You Have Everything You NeedThis is a wonderful thought that I explored on my recent trip to Nepal everyday while trekking through the Himalayas and continuously drawing upon new stores of energy, strength and wisdom that I had no idea resided within me. You have everything within you to create a perfect world around you, if you don't feel like you have what you need then maybe it's time to dig deeper. You are capable of absolutely anything, and absolutely anything is possible with some thought, dreaming, persistence and action. This draws upon the seventh chakra energy center. The Soul draws energy through the seven chakras, typically the Soul pulls most of its energy through one or two chakras, then small percentages through the remaining chakras. The seventh chakra is the space of Divine Power: you are the creator of your own magnificent life experience. This center reminds you that your life is entirely yours, so own it! There is a major sense of empowerment to the seventh chakra, reminding that you are capable of absolutely anything. It's amazing what you can achieve when you know that you can achieve it! People who tap into this energy center are amazing manifestors. If you feel as though you are hitting a wall, and you have dug deeper, then maybe this isn't the right opportunity, or the right time for you. Ego tells you to that you must be victorious, the Soul tells you that all that matters is that you are happy, learning, evolving, loving, etc. The Soul is love and wants what is best for you, the ego is judgment. Ego tells you that you should be better, do more, have more or that you can't do more, be better, have more. The ego is all of the thoughts that corral you down a road that doesn't actually serve you. There is no rush with your Soul, it has infinite amount of time so if you don't hit the nail on the head this time, there will always be a next time, and each opportunity experienced is a lesson to learn and each lesson to learn is an opportunity to grow. Try this: upon waking in the morning, ask yourself: "what does my Soul need today?" You'll be surprised by the response. Where your ego might say: "I need to exercise, then go to work, then clean, then, then then..." Your Soul might say: "I want to enjoy a cup of coffee in my pajamas and after work I want to go for a walk." Take a few deep breaths before asking this question, clear your head first and I promise that you'll get honest answers. This question will help you to better recognize when you are doing things that you think you should do instead of doing things that nourish you. Want to know more about the energy centers and the power that is uniquely yours? Maybe it's time for a Soul Realignment or Soul Profile reading! |
Chelsea M LathamWhen I was a kid my mom would occasionally refer to me as a Reverend, because I had the need to speak so passionately about just about everything. Little did she know that some day I would build a business upon sharing the wisdom that I am so passionate about.
